The following is an approximate list
- actual offerings may vary depending on climate, time of year, etc.

  • Tours of SJDS, from the highest viewpoint (El "Mirador" and El Hotel Barlovento) down to the bay and pier, to get to know the people and their town, including residences, public services, markets, economic, educational, health, and government institutions, and points of historical interest.
  • Educational "Mini-Cursos" given by school staff and visiting teachers give students a historical context to understand and appreciate the real life issues in Nicaragua. These classes employ a unique method of dramatization, written materials, and invite class participation. They are most enjoyable for students at the intermediate or advanced level, but beginners and advanced beginners can also participate. Topics include:

* Genero y Sexualidad
* Ecologia y Medio Ambiente
* Historia y Geograf�a
* Educacion
* Cultura y Tradicion
* Religion

  • Trips to Neighboring Beaches by bicycle, boat or vehicle, including: El Yanquis*, Maderas*, El Remanso*, El Coco*, San Jorge, Majahuali>, Marsella*, with opportunities for exploring, swimming, *fishing, *surfing, *horseback riding, wildlife viewing, depending on the beach of the day. Bring your own fishing or surfing equipment or rentals are available.
  • Boat Outings in the SJDS bay to see the pueblo from the sea, fish, and visit the other boats in the bay.
  • Dance, Cooking classes
  • Hikes, Bike Trips, and Horseback Excursions in and around SJDS including: hike to "El Mirador" to see SJDS from its highest viewpoint; wilderness hike to "Las Antenas" for a panoramic view of Rivas, La Virgen, Nandaime; hike to barrio Las Quintas where the wealthiest Nicaraguans have their summer homes; hike to the cliff of the mythical "Duende" or troll who is said to magically defend the natural ecology of SJDS; horseback ride through el Campo Carrizal and the surrounding hills of SJDS.
  • Visits to the nearby city of Rivas which include: visit to el Museo which offers displays of colonial and prehistoric culture; excursion to los mercados and plazas of Rivas; visit to artisan leather shops to see how they make many items; disco dance night excursion to feel and participate in the Nica energy and alegria; visits to Rivas schools and NGO's; outing to take in a Rivas national team baseball game; and more!-
  • Participation in Proyecto Donacion SSLS in which students facilitate a series of ongoing material aid donation projects sponsored by SSLS and realized at all SSLS schools. Students can participate in the following project steps: donation recipient selection, material needs assessment, shopping and purchasing of material to be donated, donation disbursement, follow-up, photodocumentation.
  • Participation in local fiestas.
  • Visits and activities with local community organizations.
